Charitable Gift Annuity in Action

Harry and Ethel Chaifetz recently established a gift annuity with the Foundation.  How does it work?

Harry and Ethel signed a simple contract with the Jewish Community Foundation.  In exchange for a gift of cash, the Foundation will pay them a fixed amount for life every year in quarterly installments.  The amount of these payments is a percentage of their gift determined by their ages and other factors at the time the gift was established.

  • They received an immediate charitable income tax deduction for the full amount of the gift.
  • A significant part of the income they receive will be tax-free (as determined by official Treasury tables).
  • After their lifetime, the remaining principal in the annuity establishes an endowment fund in the names of Harry and Ethel Chaifetz at the Foundation.
  • Their legacy will positively impact the quality of life for members of our community far into the future.
